Ned is an academic, researcher, and senior corporate executive with over 25 years of operations, strategy, and leadership experience in diplomatic, public and private sectors in various North American and international locations.
He is a Professor at The Business School, teaching in the undergraduate and post-graduate programs, as well as Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Commerce programs in Supply Chain Management and Management Studies at the Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Toronto. The focus of his research is on the Investment Strategy of Sovereign [government] Wealth Funds, focusing on the alignment between government policy focus, maximization of return, and long-term sustainability.
Ned spent 16-years of his career in diverse international assignments: As a Trade Commissioner and Political Officer with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, assisting companies expand internationally, reporting on political and security developments, representing the Canadian government, and engaging international development and institution building. As General Manager of an investment company he led the planning of a portfolio of over $600 million in capital investment projects for the group, including: business parks, logistic and border service operations, manufacturing, and large-scale industrial, residential and commercial developments, all while serving on the Board of five companies (two listed on the stock exchange). As Chief International Operations Officer for a Washington DC-based boutique advisory firm he was responsible for international deployment of experts, heading assessment teams, and led planning for large-scale public-private-partnership projects in the transportation and security sectors with governments in Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe and South America. Before finally joining Humber, he was VP of Operations and International Expansion for a Canadian HR firm, leading their international rebranding and expansion into 20 US States.
He has served as a subject matter expert for assignments with the governments of the Jordan, Nigeria, Brazil, United Arab Emirates (various ministries including: Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Interior, Transportation, Economic Development, Chambers of Commerce, and Borders and Free Zones Authorities), and has served as an international election observer.
Ned is a recipient of the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Merit Award for exceptional and distinguished contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of the public service of Canada. He also spends a great deal of time giving back to the community by serving on the boards of several Canadian and international charitable, nonprofit/community service, professional and trade development organizations. He is completing his doctoral work and has an MSc in Business and Management Research from the Henley Business School at the University of Reading (United Kingdom), an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University (United States), and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada).
